"Teaching in Times of Crisis" Published in *Journal of Feminist Studies in Religion*

Mural quoting Paulo Freire’s Pedagogy of the Oppressed (artist unknown)

At the American Academy of Religion’s Annual Meeting last November, the cohort of which I’m a part with the Louisville Institute presented the fruits of our dialogue about the implications of Paulo Freire’s Pedagogy of the Oppressed for our times. Celebrating the fiftieth anniversary of this seminal work’s publication, the session consisted of presentations on which my colleagues and I collaborated, as well as table conversations engaging themes relating liberative pedagogical praxis with some of the interrelated issues with which we grapple in our classrooms (e.g. climate catastrophe, immigration detention, racial justice, gender equity, among others). The Journal of Feminist Studies in Religion published our short takes, which incorporate our reflections on the session since then, in its most recent issue. The issue can be accessed through an institutional or personal account; alternatively, a PDF of each piece in our roundtable is available for purchase here. Many thanks to Edwin Aponte for making our collaboration possible and to Carmen Nanko-Fernández, our facilitator, for walking with us since we began our work together in the fall of 2018.
